Jina Hyojin An is a South Korean composer for film and visual media currently based in Los Angeles. She completed her studies at Berklee College of Music, where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Music degree in Film Scoring and Professional Music (Concentrating in Viola Performance and Production). Right as she graduated, she was hired by composer, Ruth Mendelson as her assistant for the new upcoming Documentary Mongolian Chronicles (2017) and Dr. Jane Goodall's audio version of her classic, My Life with the Chimpanzees (2017). She is currently under Oscar-winning composer Mychael Danna's music team working on various films and television shows.
Jina has had the opportunity to compose music for various films, Freelancers Anonymous a comedy feature directed by Sonia Sebastian premiered at the Inside Out festival in Toronto. She also worked with director Mina Fitzpatrick on the Documentary A Letter for Sangah, premiered at the St Louis International Film Festival along with CAAM Fest, one of the biggest Asian American film festival in the US.
During her studies at Berklee College of Music, the Berklee Film scoring faculty recognized her original voice and sincerity in her music. In March 2016 she was awarded the Georges Delerue Award, awarded to the top student of the department, for recognition of her outstanding music and a promising future as a film composer.
Jina’s journey in music began when she picked up the violin at the age of 4. Her gift in music was recognized even before her first birthday when she swung her body to the beat of any music that was present. She would randomly pick up a recorder and play tunes guided by her perfect pitch which lead her to win several competitions in elementary school.
Other than composing, Jina enjoys playing her viola in sessions and performances. Notable performance include the Dream Theater North American Tour 2014 at the Boston Opera House and also with Aaroh Vijay Prakash at the Berklee Performance Center. Most recent performance include "The Victory Celebration" at the Ace Hotel Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, with artist Victory Boyd(Jay-Z ROC NATION).
