Jina Hyojin An is a South Korean composer for film and visual media currently based in Los Angeles. Jina has had the opportunity to compose music for various films: Freelancers Anonymous, a comedy feature directed by Sonia Sebastian, premiered at the Inside Out festival in Toronto. She also worked with director Mina Fitzpatrick on the documentary, A Letter for Sangah, premiered at the St. Louis International Film Festival also selected to be screened at the CAAM Fest, one of the biggest Asian American film festivals in the US. Her most recent work can be heard through, 51 Nevada, a sci-fi feature directed by Fred Grant streaming on Amazon Prime.
She has worked for award winning composer, Ruth Mendelson for the new upcoming documentary, Mongolian Chronicles and Dr. Jane Goodall’s audio version of her classic, My Life with the Chimpanzees. She is currently under Oscar-winning composer Mychael Danna’s music team working on various films and television shows such as the Oscar-nominated animation feature “The Breadwinner” produced by Angelina Jolie, “On the Basis of Sex” starring Felicity Jones and many more.
During her studies at Berklee College of Music, the Berklee Film scoring faculty recognized her original voice and sincerity in her music. In March 2016, she was awarded the highest honor – Georges Delerue Award, for recognition of her outstanding music and a promising future as a film composer.
Other than composing, Jina enjoys playing her viola in sessions and performances. Notable performance includes the Dream Theater North American Tour 2014 at the Boston Opera House and also with Aaroh Vijay Prakash at the Berklee Performance Center. Most recent performance includes “ The Victory Celebration” at the Ace Hotel Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, with artist Victory Boyd (Jay-Z ROC NATION).
